Jet Setter with support from Tandem Felix

Jet Setter

Last Friday, July the 11th, BelloBar saw the launch of Dublin quartet Jet Setter EP ''Not Yet''.
Jet Setter as a band consists of Bass-Jeff Courtney, Drums-Neil Dexter,-Guitar Paddy Ormound and Ross Hamer -vocals
Formed in 2011 at a late night party in  R.A.G.E record shop, the band has fast earned its stripes on the dublin music scene. Recently Jetsetter  have been also focusing their attention  abroad gaining a positive reviews from across the water, Clash magazine and Vice have both given the band enthusiastic reviews as well as earning themselves the title of NME'S Buzz Band of the Week.

The band hit BelloBar's stage fresh from in the Pavillion in Cork (one of the last to play the venue) and despite our stage being ever so slightly smaller,

the boys didn't hold back with their performance. Vice US said of the new Ep ''This Four piece understands that sometimes all you want to hear is some really fucking good guitar'' and thats exactly what the audience at last weeks show got; an energetic peformance, raw without being sloppy  by musicians who obviously just love being on stage.

The Ep itself is an Energetic Rock/Pop Indie number with lyrics that are refreshingly insiteful. ''Not Yet'' was released as a limited edition 7 inch double single on the 13th of June via Any Other City Records and is available to listen and download here.

31st May Bob Dylans Birthday Bash!

A wonderful tribute to the man himself. Featuring brilliant performances from The Ragmen, The Annulments and The Brand New Switcheroo not to forget the various other performers, Hugo Newman, Robert Ardiff, Roger Doyle and Joey Gavin, who hopped up on the stage, all to musically wish Old Bob a Happy 73rd Birthday.

Each act paid tribute to the man and the legend, exploring the wide spanning musical of journey of  Dylan's career (so far) as well as his folk influences, all thankfully with minimal Bob impressions ((Good restraint Lads))
Check out the Ragmen  new single Horseshoe here.

Ricardo Herz Trio 21 -05-14

The Ricardo Herz Trio graced the BelloBar stage last week with a groundbreaking performance, arguably the finest show to date. With support from Dublin based band Phisqa, an Afro-Peruvian and Jazz tradition quintet.

This gig was the last of a ten-gig tour of France and London; based on the phenomenal energy of this performance, it's quite possible that Herz, Ruzitschka and Ito saved the best of their wonderful cornucopia of Brazilian rhythms and melodies to last. Honoring a standing ovation from the overwhelm crowd at BelloBar

'The Ricardo Herz trio/Phisqa gig also signaled a feather in the cap for BelloBar' said in the jazz article in All About Jazz; and signing off by saying: 'this attractive underground venue has quickly established its place as a vital part of the Dublin music scene.'

Thank you Ian!

Elastic Sleep 17-05-14

Hope is important presented Cork ShoeGaze 5 piece Elastic Sleep too BelloBar, last Saturday 17th of May.
The Band was Launching their hotly anticipated new single ''Leave you'', released on ''Big Tea records'' and Fifa Records.

E.S's dreamy, occasionally dark vocals and heavy drumbeat leaves them on the grungier side of dream pop. With a little more bite then the established bands to whom they have been so far been compared to, ie. Beach House. As well as playing us  the tracks on their debut EP (Leave you)  E.S also treated us a mesmerising cover of the James Bond theme ''You only live Twice'' This Band has been tipped for great things, with attention from NME and Filter Magazines.

Leave you available for download on the bands Bandcamp,
Support on the night came from Otherkin and Segrasso.

10-5-14 Wizards of FireTop Mountain

10-5-14
Saw Dublin Band, Wizards of FireTop Mountain take to BelloBars stage. This was not the first time the ''stoner rock'' band had played our subterranean space. In times long gone by, when  the venue went by different name WoFM were no strangers to the space, and although the space has been transformed, the nostalgia of the old punk and metal haunt crept back.
with a tour de force, emphasis on the force, line up of Fuck Mountain, (we appreciate this name)Venus Sleeps and The Whole Sick the venue was in for some ground shaking.
''Wizards go forth with stone and weed to conduct sorcery and onerous deeds, with heavy riffs we will give birth to rock and roll and hell on earth'' we couldnt have  said it better ourselves
Check them out here.

A week at BelloBar 14th-18th May 2014

Another whirlwind of eclectic noises passed through BelloBar in the past few days. We had renowned New York based saxophonist Tony Malaby, who picked up his instrument and played an extremely energetic and extensive set without pausing for a single breathe (that wasn’t taken through his instrument.)

The unique songs of Isaac &Zena, likened to a modern day Johnny and June, with guitar, tamborine, shakers and harmony singing, the Isaac & Zena duo is rooted in the American folk tradition of the 1960s with bows to country, bluegrass and rock n roll. There’s still a chance to catch them on their Irish tour if you’re in cork this weekend. They’ll be playing in the Pine Lodge in Myrtleville on Saturday the 24th and in the Quays Bar in Banrty on Sunday the 25th of June.
We were delighted to have the launch of the Elastic Sleep’s long awaited single "Leave You" on Saturday the 17th. It was a treat to hear live. There’s plenty of love being shown for this release already. It was featured as one of Nialler 9’s top ten tracks of the week, ‘Shoegazing throwback gorgeousness from the cork five-piece’ – Nialler 9
And to top it off we had Sivan Arbel, an Israeli singer composer and arranger for our weekly Sunday Jazz night. This weeks highlight will be the Ricardo Herz and PHISQA gig on the 21st of May. Buy your €10 ticket for RICARDO HERZ TRIO before midnight tonight to be in with a chance to receive a free PHISQA CD. Buy tickets on entertainment.ie or get mor info from the facebook event

11-4-14 Dublin jazz book Vol 1

We were delighted to have the launch of The goal of the Dublin Jazz Book vol 1 here in BelloBar. First Things First. What is the Dublin Jazz Book vol 1 you ask? Well its a project created by Sam Kavanagh and Steven McNamara (ROJI DESIGNS),  to give international musicians some insight into the Dublin jazz scene at the present moment.

The compositions in the Dublin Jazz Book provide a sample of the work emerging from Dublin. It includes, side by side, the works of seasoned professionals and students, selected on an open-submission basis. Every composer who submitted at least one complete work is represented. Not all of the composers are from Dublin, or even Ireland, but they have all positively contributed to the musical culture of the city.

The New Compositions were performed on the the night by beloved dublin based musicians and BelloBar Jazz Sunday Regulars; Sam Comerford Tom Caraher Johnny Taylor Julien Colarossi

Cormac OBrien Cote Calmet.

9-5-14 Richard Dawson

Richard Dawson Playing to a transfixed audience in BelloBar Friday 9th of May.

The Newcastle Folk singer swayed from easy witty banter to touchingly raw and powerful storytelling.
Dawson has been known for his ability transport his audience to other worlds and the packed house in BelloBar were not disappointed. At one stage the Geordie Singer jokes about weather or not he'll sing a cover of  a Journey classic treating us to a few bars and with the same breath releases an acapella heart wrenching ballad that could be ripped straight from the lungs of a pre-industrial northern England coal miner

2014 is set to be as busy, Dawson is currently 9 days deep into a 16 day European tour ranging from Liverpool to Geneva

Godspeed Meltybrains?

The very best of luck to the Meltybrains? Lads who have just set of across the pond to perform a string of dates in the USA.

A Transatlantic Tour, a busy Irish schedule and to top things off, a new video for 'Green, Yellow & Purple' the boys really aren't stopping for a breath. The 10 minute video made by Louise Gaffney of Come on Live Long fits perfectly band's ambient sound and atmospheric quality.
Watch the whole video right here.
We were very happy to have both Come on Live Long and Meltybrains? play in BelloBar as part of Daytripper III and the Hipdrop collective in November. The show wasn't even shut down by the police (MB have a bit of a reputation when it comes to that) here's a couple lovely Photos of the eve taken by Martini Smyth, take a peek.

Pop on over to see them, doors are at 8pm.

We've arrived.

We've had quite a few acts down into our subterranean little haunt since we opened for the first time as BelloBar Dublin on the 8th of November 13, all glamourous and Candlelit if we do say so our self, actually we don't need to say it ourselves because Day&Night  magazine have said it for us, look we have proof.
